Coos Bay Estuary Management Plan Update

Planning for a healthy and prosperous Coos Bay
The estuary management plan for Coos Bay ensures the bay is managed for the benefit of the public and natural resources in a way that meets the development needs of the community. Coos County and the cities of North Bend and Coos Bay have been working to modernize the Coos Bay Estuary Management Plan (CBEMP), which is over forty years old, through a Phase 1 revision. CBEMP Phase 1 revisions are intended to:
- improve plan usability,
- update some maps and inventory data,
- improve coordination between jurisdictions,and
- update the 40-year-old plan with current agency names, laws and regulations.
CBEMP Phase 1 revisions do not include any changes to zoning or management unit designations—those will be addressed in subsequent phases. As part of the update process, the draft plan update is being shared with the public for review and feedback. Plan Documents are available for review on the Coos County website.
Estuary management plans rely on data and information that describe the physical, biological, social, and economic conditions of the estuarine area, and define the boundaries of individual management units. This information has been mapped and is available on this data viewer. This information is all draft for now. It only becomes official when the county and cities adopt the information.
